I was channel surfing and happened to see a televangelist talking about the concept of weakness. Throughout history, regardless of culture or religion, human weakness has always been seen as a bad thing and something that must be “overcome” or used as an advantage in battle. The most famous story is, of course, about Achilles and his heel. Today that is synonymous with weakness.
Weakness takes many forms. In horror and crime drama movies the good guys are always looking to find the weakness of the monster/criminal. In religion, weakness is often associated with succumbing to the devil or not being able to control your own inner demons. In business, you are never supposed to show weakness since you can be easily taken advantage of. As a man, you’re never supposed to show any weakness since it is a sign that you are less masculine. And as a woman showing weakness makes you highly vulnerable to a variety of problems.
But is any of this true? What exactly is weakness?
The reality is in flow there is no such thing as weakness. Remember, when you are in flow you are always your most successful. So if you are always your most successful, how can you have a “weakness”? It comes down to definitions, and as The Rishis have said many times current definitions of terms (morality, evil, etc.) are irrelevant in flow.
Flow is what you are supposed to be and what makes you your most successful. It took me a long time to understand the difference between flow and weakness. When I was in high school I took a computer course and got an “A”, so entered college as a computer science major. Ends up I really despised programming, as well as other pursuits such as accounting and finance. I also found I disliked watching sports (and playing basketball specifically), working in an office, and repairing cars myself. These things can all be considered weaknesses, especially the latter three if you are an American male, yet they are not — it’s just the way my flow is.
The other thing to keep in mind is blockages come from friends, family, and society. A weakness in one culture can be a strength in another. In America, for centuries it was considered a weakness (mainly on the woman’s part) to get pregnant before getting married. Yet in Iceland, getting pregnant before marriage isn’t considered a weakness, but getting pregnant by someone (or getting someone pregnant) who is “beneath” your social status is.
So flow is always strength and there is no weakness.
