Perceptions and a pain in the . . .

Physical health also is intricately tied in with flow. In my case, I found this out inadvertently. My joints and bones were aching back in the 1990’s and I thought it was due to my workouts at the gym. So, of course, the doctor immediately said “stop working out”. Yeah, good advice. Well, I knew that working out was good for me and I kept on, with intermittent pain.

Well, fast forward to when I quit my full time job. I soon discovered that my aches and pains were NOT from working out at all! They were from using the computer and sitting all day. In fact, my workouts were actually helping to mitigate the damage I was doing in an office setting.

As the years went on I soon discovered that pains I was attributing to working out were the direct result of something else. My knees started hurting after spinning class, so much so that I stopped for a few weeks. Well, ultimately my knees were fine. The cause? I was working with a client (in my old business) that was insanely stressful, and my body did not like it.

So the moral is listening to your body is one great way to find your flow (and what’s blocking it!). If you’re suffering from some ailment, first examine what’s going on in your life, what stresses are you under. 9 times out of 10 if you can mitigate or (ideally) eliminate the stress your pains will gradually fade away.
